Our meaning of Parallel

The name “Parallel Running” reflects part of our coaching philosophy - working side by side with your coach, while recognising that everything you do beyond running, from strength work, fuelling, recovery and social connection plays a direct role in your performance and long term development.

Parallel Running was created to offer a fresh, holistic approach to run coaching- one that looks beyond just the kilometres and focuses on the bigger picture of performance.

We’re excited to introduce our junior run coaching, designed to be cost-effective, support parents, and emphasise the importance of long-term development through education. Alongside personalised run programming, we also provide strength training specifically for runners, with plans to expand our holistic approach into areas such as nutrition, dietetics, and more.

Our Story

Ned and Matt grew up in Bendigo and started running from the age of 5 years old, beginning their journey with the Bendigo Harriers. Winter season involved Saturday Cross Country and then Little Athletics in the Summer. They played soccer and footy up until aged 15, where they then both decided that running was where they wanted to dedicate more of their time and take it seriously. Ned and Matt were both lucky enough to be coached under Andy Buchanan from Grade 6 up until age 22 where Matt and Andy continue as training partners coached under Scott Wescott. Being involved as athletes along with study has helped them develop their understanding of training and coaching principles. Having been part of the sport for such a long time and transitioning into open age competition, Ned and Matt understand the importance of fostering a healthy relationship with the sport as it can be cruel and lonely at times.  Fasting forward, Ned and Matt now have multiple years each of coaching experience. Coaching juniors to adults in events ranging from 400m all the way to the Marathon, with great success over all distances. Both of them are super excited for Parallel Running and believe that what Parallel has to offer is something unique to the online run coaching world. The boys are innovative, passionate and always looking at ways to learn and grow.

Why we created Parallel Running

Running isn’t just about pushing harder - it’s about training smarter, staying consistent, and enjoying the process along the way.

We created Parallel to support runners in more ways than one. We give athletes the opportunity to combine run coaching with structured strength programming, because better performance and longevity in the sport come from combining these pillars, not focusing on just one.

We understand the real demands of running and the realities of everyday life. Many runners are balancing training with full-time work, family commitments, and the need for proper recovery. That’s why our coaching approach prioritises smart training, supportive guidance, and the importance of rest, helping athletes build consistency without burning out.

We believe progress happens when runners feel supported, confident, and equipped with the right tools to train well.

As Parallel Running continues to grow, our vision is to expand the ways we support athletes, with plans to incorporate exercise physiology, nutrition guidance consultations in the future to further enhance health, performance, and recovery.

Whether you're preparing for your first race, chasing a personal best, or simply looking to run stronger and stay injury-free, Parallel Running is here to support your journey.
